Old Method of Measuring

These are taken from my Great Grandmothers book she put together for my mother. The book was completed in 1968, but was written for a few decades.  I always refer to this book as the Record Book.

Old Method of Measuring

Pinch of salt = 1/4 teaspoon

Handful of flour =1/4 cup

Butter size of walnut = 1 tablespoon

4 tablespoons = 1/4 cup

6 tablespoons = 3/8 cup

8 tablespoons = 1/2 cup

2 tablespoons = 1 fluid ounce

1 cup = 8 fluid ounces

2 cups = 1 pint

2 pints = 1 quart

4 quarts = 1 gallon

16 cups = 1 gallon

8 pints = 1 gallon

60 pounds Irish potatoes = 1 bushel

8 quarts = 1 peck

50 pounds sweet potatoes = 1 bushel

1 saltspoon =1/4 teaspoon

Usual oven temperature = 350 degrees
