Joining Heather from Beauty that Moves
This past week in my kitchen has been so busy!  Since Oldest Bit and Mr. Bit were getting prepared for Scout Camp, I had to do a great deal of cooking preparations for them.  Because Oldest Bit has such severe nut allergies, he cannot eat the food the camp provides, so the rest of the troop made the decision to make their own food preparations so he would not feel left out.  Very sweet of them, but that means they came up with a menu, and I agreed to prep most of it.  Small price for a great troop.  They love biscuits, so many were made!

My garden is overflowing with greens.  Kale, Swiss chard, spinach and lettuce.  Busy making kale chips and freezing the others, except for the lettuce.  Trying to eat as much as I can and have given some to friends as well.

Finally, Little Bit took a cake decorating class with a friend of hers the other day, and had an amazing time.  You can tell she enjoyed decorating the cake as well as eating it!

Hope you all have had a great time in the kitchen as well!  Can’t wait to see what you have been up to!

Love,

Suzy

Wednesday Weekly-Ham Dinner

Joining Beauty that Moves for their weekly kitchen blog hop!
Our Easter dinner went really well, and the menu I planned last week was carried out, except for cream of asparagus soup.  We instead had cream of mushroom.  It seems I waited to log, or stored it the wrong way, but the asparagus went bad.  Oh well, live and learn.  But oh my goodness the cream of mushroom was so delicious!

The highlight though was seeing my son make deviled eggs.  After we hunted Easter eggs, my son who loves to cook went into the kitchen and whipped up some eggs.  This was not even on the menu! I was so proud of him and happy to see that my kids are willing to create in the kitchen.

I hope all of you had a wonderful Easter dinner, and a great week of cooking!

Cannot wait to see your creations and pictures!

Our Weekend

It rained most of the weekend, so we spent most of the time indoors.  But it was also strange because my kids must have been feeling opposite.  Here are some examples.

My oldest bit who hates to cook, decided he would cook.  And it was really good.  He had an idea to stuff sausage, hash browns, and veggies into pizza dough.  Oh they were delicious.  But I honestly do not know what inspired him.

Middle Bit, who hates to read, was found reading on the couch more than once.  This was so cool. No one told him to read, he just got a book from the library and started reading quietly.  We did not even know that he was in the room.  Too cool!

But little bit, she had a hard weekend.  She just wanted to throw tantrums.  This is unusual on the weekends because she loves to play and have fun.  Kind of a bummer, but made for a cute pouty picture.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend full of rest and surprises!

Messy Weekend

What is life without messes?

What is a home without messes?

Sure I like to keep things clean, but I also like people to truly live in my home.

Not just my family, but also my friends.

This weekend I had a canning party in which some dear friends helped motivate me to can over 30 quarts in one day of spaghetti sauce, my award-winning salsa and tomato sauce.  What was once bare shelves are now showing the fruits of our labor.

One of the biggest compliments was given to me that day.  One woman, I know really well, and she feels comfortable in my home, the other is new to our town and was the first time I really got to know her.  The latter of the women wanted a glass of water, and immediately my other friend told her where to find the glasses and water.  She turned to me and said, “I am sorry!  This is your home, I just feel so relaxed and at home here!”

I loved to hear this.  I want my home to be a place where people can come and be relaxed, cared for and know that they can feel free to care for others in it.

My boys had a slumber party in which they made their sleeping area on the landing of the upstairs.  I let them get messy and make a mess upstairs.  When it was time for their friends to go home, their friends  were sad and wanted to stay.

The classroom is where all the learning will take place this year, and now it is a mess.  But the excitement from seeing the mess is too much for my kids.  Not a bad thing, but they are so excited to see what they will be learning.

This is life, messy and comfortable and I would not change a thing!

Hope you had a great weekend!

He Had to Make a Cake

Middle Bit had to make a cake for Boy Scouts. I kind of left him to it. By that I mean, I was not always in the kitchen, but always on the outskirts. I fought the urge to tell him to clean, to take over, to tell him he is doing something wrong. Instead, I got my camera and took pictures. This distracted me. He did a great job. The funny part? This was a cake auction for his troop, and he bought his own cake. It is delicious.
Have a great day everyone!

(P.S. I still do not know why the oatmeal was out for this recipe!  I guess he thought he would take everything out of the pantry! And he did not use laundry detergent.  We took the old buckets, cleaned them out really well and now store flour in them.  I do not know why I feel like I need to explain all of this to you.  I will stop now.)
(P.P.S. Yes he is still in his pajamas. Don’t judge. OK, now I am really done)
